In late June the city council moved the rough sleepers and their gear, including bedding and blankets, out from away from the construction site - seen at the back of the photo below - but the street kitchen stayed and since then the number of tents has increased so that the tent city now occupies almost the whole block of Martin Place from Macquarie Street down to the steps. There is a piano, a library, and a rack of clothes to choose garments from, as well as the kitchen. Residents sit on chairs provided near the kitchen and eat their food. Pedestrians using Martin Place walk through or around the tent city. The construction site is where a new building to go above the planned metro railway station will be built.
