Cate Blanchett and husband Andrew Upton take the reins of the Sydney Theatre Company this year, reports Rosemary Neill in The Weekend Australian.

More, Blanchett's directorial debut, in December, is to be Blackbird, "about a sexual "relationship" between a 12-year-old girl and a 40-year-old man", which was a hit at the Edinburgh Festival last year and played to good reviews in London.

According to Lizzie Loveridge:

Blackbird is a dark and beguiling play which stays with you. Is Ray remorseful or a very clever criminal? Is Una mentally unstable, irrevocably damaged? If yes, how did she get that way? Is it possible that a twelve year old girl and a forty year old man could fall in love with the adult not being guilty of abuse of power?
